Cactus-Classic-2016_edited_edited.png

TEAM ROSTERS, TOURNAMENT CREDENTIALS

Team rosters need to be uploaded and verified in AES.  Players and/or coaches that are written in on the roster will need to provide their volleyball membership (JVA, USAV, AAU) information at check-in.  All registered players and coaches on team rosters (and registered chaperones with teams in the hotel block) will be admitted to the venues with wristbands and proper credentials

COACH CERTIFICATION

Every JVA member and all adults listed on rosters at JVA insured events, must complete the Background Screen and APS training unless they have a current USAV Background Check and verified SafeSport Certification

This must appear on your AES roster and/or be verified by your Region Office.  Chaperones must be listed on the AES roster (with a JVA or USAV background check and SafeSport) to certified for the tournament.

For any questions regarding JVA requirements, please contact bill.lang@clubcactusvolleyball.com.

TEAM CHECK-IN

All teams MUST check-in prior to competing in the tournament.  At check-in, we will finalize your team's Event Roster and verify player/staff USAV memberships.  We will also be checking that each team has a copy of each player's medical release form on site with the coach and/or chaperone.

Coaches will also be able to pick up team credentials and player gifts along with the Coaches Packet at check-in.  Any last-minutes changes will be available at check-in - there is no tournament Coaches Meeting.

Check-In will be on Friday, January 15; 4:00-9:00 PM at the Tucson Convention Center; or

Saturday, 7:00 AM-3:00 PM at the Tucson Convention Center and Sporting Chance Center*

* PLEASE NOTE: Any team that has not checked in on Friday will automatically have their Team Check-In Packet sent to the Sporting Chance Center if they are scheduled to play at the SCC on Saturday.

A ROSTERED COACH of the club must check-in each team.  Any rostered coach may check-in other club teams provided they have the Team Rosters and Medical Release Forms on hand to verify and check-off.

  • Please do not send a parent to the tournament check-in as they will be sent away.

  • The coach must be authorized to sign each Event Roster.

PLAYING TIMES - SUBJECT TO CHANGE DUE TO COVID-19

Play begins at 8:00 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2021.

Competition on Saturday and Sunday is pool play in a wave format.  The morning pools (wave) will begin at 8:00 AM and the afternoon pools (wave) will begin at 3:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

Teams playing in the AM Wave on Saturday do NOT necessarily play in the AM Wave on Sunday; Sunday and Monday play time assignments depend on the team's pool finish on the previous day.  Depending on the number of teams in a division, there may be additional matches for some teams in the evening of either Saturday or Sunday (or both); further play depends on the team's pool finish.

Monday's competition will be modified double-elimination bracket play, depending on the team's standing at the end of Sunday's competition.  The last round of matches on Monday is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.  However, competition usually runs late on the last day of the tournament, so we recommend that teams do not schedule any flights or transportation departing from Tucson earlier than 6:30 PM.

Specific start times for teams will be published the week of the tournament after seeding is completed and teams are assigned to pools for Saturday.  Please do not contact us (or have parents contact us) earlier than the time frames listed below...

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE AND LIVE RESULTS

The Cactus Classic Invitational is a paperless event.  For a compete tournament schedule and updated results, the Cactus Classic is published online on Advanced Event Systems.  You can also download the AES X-press app to follow all the action on your handheld device.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

The Cactus Classic Invitational will be three rounds of competition.  Saturday and Sunday's format will be Pool Play.  Monday will be Tournament Bracket Play.  At this point, all teams will have been sorted into divisions of similar competitive skills.  Teams should be expected to play at least 2 matches on Monday.

TIEBREAK PROCEDURES:    The Cactus Classic Invitational utilizes a Tie-Breaker Procedure that will be enforced in the event of a three-way tie in which one of the team would be eliminated from moving into the Saguaro (Championship or Gold) Division.

MONDAY DEPARTURE:  Please do not make travel arrangements to leave earlier than 6:00 PM.  While the final matches on Monday will depend on format, the tournament attempts to schedule all final matches by 4:00 PM.  The hosting club (Club Cactus Juniors) will help all out-of-town teams with their last officiating assignments when available.

OFFICIAL GAME BALL

The Cactus Classic Invitational is proud to partner with Molten for the tournament's official game ball.  The event will use the Molten SuperTouch (IV58L-RED/SLV) Volleyball.  The 12-and-under Division will play with the Molten USAV VBU12 Light Volleyball (VBU12-3).

PRACTICE TIMES AT THE CONVENTION CENTER FRIDAY NIGHT

Provided that we finish the court installation before 4:00 PM on Friday, teams may practice at the Convention Center for a one-hour practice period.  There will be 12 courts available and practice periods begin at 4:30 PM on Friday.  All practices must be finished and all players, coaches, and spectators must leave the court area no later than 8:30 PM.

Use of practice courts is a first-come, first-served basis; no reservations needed.  Courts will turn every hour - at 5:30 PM, 6:30 PM, 7:30 PM - and teams will need to exit the court (regardless of when they started) if another team is waiting.  Each team must provide their own equipment (volleyballs and carts) for both practice and the tournaments.

PLEASE NOTE:  All players and coaches must have their credentials (and spectators must have an entry wristband) to enter the practice courts.  No one is admitted into the playing floors without credentials - this includes anyone watching on the floor and holds for the entire tournament.

The TCC Parking Lots will be charging for parking during Friday's practice sessions.
